10 Essentials Every Car Needs To Carry

What are some of the things that you have in the trunk of your vehicle? I’m not talking about the obvious things like spare tire, jack, phone chargers. Most everyone has those things in their cars most of the time anyway.  If you don’t, then you definitely should. I’m talking about things you may need in an emergency that you might not have given  a lot of thought about. In this post I’ll list the 10 things I think everyone really needs to have in their car/vehicle at
all times.

1. First Aid Kit

A first aid kit is something you definitely need to have on hand. It doesn’t have to be a massive one, just one with some basic things in it to use in an emergency. This is very important to have, which is why I list it at number 1.

2.Roadeside Assistance Kit

This kit basically has everything from jumper cables to reflective warning triangle, tow rope,  seatbelt cutter etc. Definitely something to keep in your vehicle at all times. There are a variety of these out on the market, but this one is a good basic start.

3. Roadside Flares

Emergency roadside flares are also something you should have in your vehicle.  Hopefully you’ll never have to use them, but just in case you should be prepared. The LED set here takes batteries that are suppose to last around 38 hours.

4. Emergency Thermal Mylar Blankets

I always carry these in my vehicle, they’re very compact & don’t take up much room. They’re waterproof and weatherproof ,and good for retaining & deflecting heat. You can get a set of 10 here, I even carry one in my purse. You can keep one in each of your vehicles, boat or use camping.

5. Portable Electric Air Compressor

Basically it’s a air compressor and car tire inflator that plugs into your vehicles cigarette lighter. This one here is very versatile, and can be used on bikes, motorcycles, ATV etc. Very handy to have around.

6. Car Tire Gauge

This just basically reads tire pressure, which your suppose to check when tires are cold. Something you should check if you feel some uneven spots when your driving to.

7. Tire Repair Kit

The kit found here has 62 pieces and full instructions. Everything you should need to repair a flat tire if you need to. Hopefully you’ll never need it. I always have one in the back of my vehicle for an emergency.

8. Flashlight & Batteries

It’s a given that you should have flashlight in your vehicle, but you should routinely check them out and make sure the batteries are still good. You could swap them out for newer ones from time to time just to make sure you have good working flashlights at all times.

9. Food/Water

You should carry a tote with at least a few small items like granola bars, dried fruit, snack crackers & chips. I also like to keep some bottles of water, and a roll of paper towels in there as well.

10. Cat Litter

Ok, I know some people laugh, but I always carry a bag of cat litter in the trunk of my vehicle. They say that if you get stuck in the mud, or in the snow you can pour some litter down to gain traction and get yourself out. I haven’t tried it myself but I’m prepared just in case the time came that I might need it.

All of these things really don’t take up a lot of room, you could get one of those containers with a lid and keep everything in one place that will fit easily in the back of your trunk.

Bonus

I think you should also carry a change of clothes as well, a whole outfit from head to toe. You can rotate your clothes according to whatever season your in.

I hope you found this helpful and decide to add a few things to your vehicles trunk. Hopefully you’ll never have to use any of the things here. It’s always good to be prepared for any emergencies that appear when you least expect it. These things would be a great gift for first time drivers, teens just getting their license and starting to drive etc.
